A wonderful hand embroidered gold coloured chain stitch textile. Otttoman. Turkey c1900. Chain stitch was a type of stitching developed originally in China and gradually travelled along the silk route to other areas. It was an effective way to draw using thread as the technique created curves and shapes. This textile is very finely detailed with stylised leaves and flowers as well as pomegranites using gold coloured thread on raw ecru coloured silk - hence the mottling seen on the background fabric. It is extraordinary hand work and a fantastic piece - rare and absolutely gorgeous! It would look stunning in a bedroom.
